Welding occurs in almost every conceivable manufacturing industry where shielding gases, equipment, consumables and techniques vary from industry to industry which can have a significant impact on weld quality and efficiency. This micro-credential aims to upskill qualified welders with theoretical and practical knowledge and experience in the wide range of shielding gases, safe handling and management, and the cost and quality benefits of different current and emerging welding technologies.

Upon completion of this micro-credential, learners will be able to:

• understand and demonstrate which shielding gas combinations can be used on specific welds
• understand and demonstrate the overall cost, time, and resource efficiency for each shielding gas or combination of gases
• understand and demonstrate strengths and weaknesses of appropriate gases or combination of gases and settings
• understand the safety benefits of using certain shielding gases to reduce fume
• understand and demonstrate safe handling and storage of shielding gases.
