Steve Milanoski:

Creating technical drawings is a skill that a lot of junior engineers don't come prepared with straight out of school and it's something that has always been historically a on-the-job skill that you learn.

This micro-credential is really important for anyone that wants to relay some form of technical  requirement that is dealing with manufacturing concepts.

This micro-credential would start with just analysing geometry and understanding how that geometry is fixed within six degrees of freedom or within, let's just say, space, and that's where your part starts.

And then from there you apply these GD&T fundamentals to create that technical drawing that relays the design intent from art to part.

Malcolm Heath:

Well it's giving the tradesperson a voice that is a way of communicating the information or an idea that they have across to another person or another tradesperson.

These courses are going to actually make the entire workforce more skilled, more job ready.

What I love about NETM is it's brought together industry and education providers to look towards the future.

Steve Milanoski:

It's all about skilling our workforce and we don't have any other avenues other than this micro-credential currently to provide our staff with the skills around technical drawing, either creation or just understanding.

Advanced manufacturing is for everyone and advanced manufacturing is the future.

So whether you're involved on the front end, in the front office, if you're involved at your machines, if you're involved in quality, this is something for you.

Micro-credential overview

Creating technical drawings is a critical skill in manufacturing, especially in advanced manufacturing contexts where precise technical skills in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing are in increasing demand. Without unambiguous, clear and complete technical drawings, manufacturers cannot produce objects at scale.  This micro-credential prepares learners to create technical drawings in line with Australian Standards.

Upon completion of this micro-credential, learners will be able to:

  • understand Australian Standard AS1100 technical drawing information requirements
  • translate engineering intent into AS1100-compliant detail drawings
  • ensure detail drawings combine into coherent AS1100-compliant assembly drawing(s).
