Liveability and environment
The commitments are at various stages of design and delivery. Updated milestones are published each year in the annual report which can be viewed here.
L1 - Western Parkland City Liveability Program
Commitment
The Western Parkland City Liveability Program is a $210 million Western Sydney City Deal commitment and includes $60 million each from the Australian and NSW governments and a minimum contribution of $30 million from the eight City Deal Councils. All eight City Deal councils are participating in the Liveability Program: Blue Mountains, Camden, Campbelltown, Fairfield City, Hawkesbury, Liverpool, Penrith and Wollondilly.
There are 28 funded projects under the Program which were announced in two funding rounds in 2019 and 2020. These projects will provide vital community infrastructure and public spaces across the Western Parkland City, including parks, sporting facilities, rejuvenated town centres and art and cultural event spaces.
L2 - New National Herbarium of NSW
Commitment
The NSW Government will create a Western Sydney Centre of Innovation in Plant Sciences at the Australian Botanic Garden in Mount Annan.
L3 - Restore and protect South Creek
Commitment
The South Creek corridor from Narellan to Hawkesbury has been identified as an important environmental spine and organising landscape element for the Western Parkland City. The NSW Government will develop a strategy for South Creek that will investigate its restoration and protection.
L4 - Strategic assessment under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act
Commitment
The Australian and NSW governments are progressing a strategic assessment under the Commonwealth Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) Act 1999 to protect the environment and streamline environmental approvals for development in Western Sydney.
L5 - Western Sydney Health Alliance
Commitment
Western Parkland Councils, in collaboration with health partners, will establish the Western Sydney Health Alliance to improve coordination and effectiveness of health services in the region, supporting healthier neighbourhoods.
