Aerotropolis gets ready for takeoff as work begins on Bradfield Zone substation

Western Sydney’s Aerotropolis development is under way with work beginning on the first critical piece of energy infrastructure for the area. The $38.8 million Bradfield Zone substation marks the beginning of the once-in-a-generation development that will change the face of Greater Sydney.

Minister for Enterprise, Investment and Trade Alister Henskens said the Western Parkland City, centred around the Aerotropolis, is an incredible opportunity for the people of NSW.

"Through the final precinct plan, we've laid the foundations for five new precincts that will not only see a boom in highly-skilled jobs in Western Sydney, but will also facilitate the building of around 11,400 new homes, beautiful new parklands and open space to create a world-class city."

The NSW Government released the final Precinct Plan for the Aerotropolis earlier this year, paving the way for the development of around 6,500 hectares of land surrounding Western Sydney International Airport.

Japanese powerhouse Hitachi to attract innovation jobs to Western Sydney

The NSW Government has signed the first private-sector tenancy agreement with Japanese global giant Hitachi.

NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet said Hitachi would establish a 'Kyoso' (collaborative creation) centre in Bradfield City Centre's First Building alongside the Advanced Manufacturing Research Facility (AMRF) next year, attracting advanced technology jobs to Western Sydney.

The Western Parkland City Authority has also released the first of a $23 million package of tenders for advanced manufacturing equipment to be installed in the pilot of the AMRF due to open in 2023.

The Hitachi agreement is a result of a public tender process and follows the NSW Budget commitment of $260 million to establish the Australian-first full scale AMRF, which will create new high-paying jobs of the future in Western Sydney and make Bradfield City Centre the national capital of advanced manufacturing.

NETM announces two micro-credentials with TAFE NSW and advanced manufacturing powerhouse ROMAR

Our New Education and Training Model (NETM) team announced earlier this month that TAFE NSW is the successful provider to partner with advanced manufacturing powerhouse ROMAR Engineering.

The two partners will co-design and co-deliver two NETM funded micro-credentials, or short courses, in technical drawing that will increase the skills density in the rapidly growing economic engine room of Western Sydney.

'Introduction to Technical Drawings' and 'Create Technical Drawings' will be funded through the Western Parkland City Authority's $37.4 million NETM program, a NSW Government initiative putting industry in the driver's seat to co-design and co-deliver agile courses that rapidly upskill workers.

Register your interest for either of these courses on the TAFE website and view the full NETM micro-credential course catalogue on our website. Find out how you can partner with us to develop micro-credentials to upskill your workforce here.
